Some of you might be wondering, what is MYP Personal Project?
So basically IB MYP is an educational program that is intended for students aged 11-16 years old. This program is applied at Sekolah Victory Plus which is my school. In order to pass this program, students should do a final assessment which is called as the Personal Project. In this project students should choose an academic or non-academic topic to be developed into a project based on global context. A personal project advisor will guide us through this project. And students are expected to complete the project over the course of the school year and in order to pass we should score at least 3/7.
For the details of my personal project, here's my personal project proposal!
PERSONAL PROJECT PROPOSAL

Proposal:
NATIV PULCHRITUDE
(REDESIGNED TRADITIONAL DANCE COSTUME)
GOAL OF PERSONAL PROJECT
Traditional
dancing is one of my passion, an interest that I had since I was little.
Growing up dancing I saw dancers perform, but there is one thing that bugs me.
The costume that they use is always the same! Through my project, I have a goal
to learn how to redesign the traditional dance costumes and make it. Another
goal is my costume will be used in at least one performance and my “sanggar”
will accept my costumes as part of their collection (people can rent it and
used for performing).
GLOBAL
CONTEXT OF PERSONAL PROJECT
The
personal project that I am doing will address the global context of personal
and cultural expression. Why? Because I will explore Indonesian culture and
develop the culture in the form of traditional dancing costume. In this costume
I will also express my own personality, extending and enjoying my creativity
through redesigning traditional dance costume.
SPECIFICATION
OF PERSONAL PROJECT
The
name of my project means Indonesian original beauty, I will express this beauty
through traditional dance costumes. Not just any costume, but the once I
redesign by myself. I will take 3 traditional dances, which I will redesign and
remake the costumes. I will improve it but not taking away the pakem and the
essence or meaning that the costume itself represents. To make sure that this costume is entirely
designed and made by me, I will design and make the batik cloth by myself in
the Hadiprijanto Batik in Banyumas.
Besides
of making the batik cloth, I will also learn how to sew through my grandma that
was a garment owner and a tailor for years. I will make the costumes and sew
most of it by myself as well as the accessories, which I will sew or make using
wire jewelry method if there is time. Then I will use my costumes to perform in
at least 1 event together with my friends. Afterwards I would like to sign up
my costume to the costume rental in my sanggar so people can use it.
In
order to achieve all of the above I will need experts that can guide me to the
correct way of making the costumes. Starting from the first expert, I will work
with Ibu Happy Inong, which is the expert and maker of traditional dance
costumes, a dancer and my teacher. She
understands the pakem and she agreed to help me in this project, in fact she is
very supportive. From her I will find out which dances I can redesign the
costumes of, under what rules and how. This will take about 1 or 2 meetings for
the interview, but I will always communicate with her to consult about the
costume (I always meet her at least once a week). Then I will work with Ibu
Adele (if possible) and Setyo Cahyono, which are both experts in drawing and
fashion design for at least 1-2 meetings for each expert. From them I will learn how to draw and design
the clothes based on the information I have collected from Ibu Happy
Inong. Afterwards I will start sewing
with my grandma, Ibu Joe Kwie Ing as the expert. She was a garment factory
owner and a tailor. At the same time I
will communicate through phone with Ibu Hu Lwie or her son, the owner of Batik
Hadipriyanto about the batik pattern and meet them to complete the cloth in
December.
METHOD
AND PROCESS
To
collect the data I need in order to complete my project, I will use the
qualitative method. Using the qualitative method I will interview the experts
about the dance meaning, costume for the dance, how to design, how to sew and
how to make the batik pattern cloth. Most of my expert can be met face to face
except for the batik one. She or he will be interviewed through phone call. The
entire interview will be done using guideline questions that will be made based
on the secondary research I will do (books and internet). Then during the
interview process I will also actively ask questions that is based on the
statements that is made by the expert to get deeper and more detail information
of the respective topic. I will also observe the original costume to see the
things I can improve and redesign.
